

Barry Lee Birdy, aka Papa, Poppi and Big Papa, died November 9, 2022 in San Antonio Texas. Barry Lee Birdy was born February 11, 1940 in Camden, New Jersey. In 1944, his family moved to Hollywood, Florida. Barry was 82 years old and in his life he lived in New Jersey, Florida, England, Germany, Mississippi, Italy, and Texas.
Barry was preceded in death by his mother Betty Paulson, father Charles Birdy, step-father Charles Paulson, and brother Charles Paulson Jr.
Barry was survived by a brother, Jan (Catherine) Paulson, sister, Lori (Michael) Bird, 2 nieces: Elizabeth Paulson and Jennifer (Joseph) Olinger, 1 nephew: Michael (Katherine) Paulson, his wife Nancy Birdy, 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Barry married his childhood sweetheart, Nancy Gray, on February 21, 1959. They had 3 children, Karen (Robin Burgin) Birdy, David Birdy, and Brian (Karen) Birdy. Papa enjoyed his seven grandchildren, Gregg (Lorena) Birdy, Russell (Meredith) Birdy, Jessica (Blais) Case, Austin (Anna Young) Birdy, Fedeline Birdy, Christelle (Davide) Gennette, and Lonise Birdy. He was blessed with seven great grandchildren. Luis Reyes III, Penelope Birdy, Laury Birdy, Lily Birdy Amilcar, Blackley Birdy, Wyatt Case and Waylon Case. His eighth great grandson, Owen Barry Birdy, is due to be born in December 2022.
Barry and Nancy enjoyed their 63 years together. They loved cruising, Las Vegas, their yorkies, games, and especially their family. Barry loved music and going on smooth jazz cruises with his daughter Karen. He was an avid Spurs fan and a season ticket holder for many years. He loved taking his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to Spurs games.
Barry enlisted in the US Air Force in November 1958. He was selected as Chief Master Sergeant at 34 years old, making him one of the youngest Chiefs in history. He served for 26 years and retired in San Antonio Texas in 1984. Barry went on to real estate after the Air Force and was the founder of Birdy Properties in 1979. Birdy Properties has become one of the largest Property Management Companies in San Antonio. Barry’s children and grandchildren are continuing his legacy at Birdy Properties.
Barry was charismatic, thoughtful, generous, and kind to all he came across. He lit up a room and enjoyed life to its fullest. He was loved and respected by all and he will be sorely missed.
There will be a Life Celebration on November 30, 2022 at Porter Loring 2102 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio Tx 78232 at 11:30AM followed by full military honors at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery at 2:30PM.
