Bennie Brent Castillo was born into this world on February 18, 1966, in Liberty, Texas, to Shirley Marie Jones Castillo and Bennie Castillo, both of Dayton, Texas. BB, Brent, Bennie Brent was called home by our Heavenly Father on the morning of December 16, 2021, at University Hospital, with complications from pneumonia.
Bennie Brent moved with his family from Dayton to San Antonio in 1966. He lived in San Antonio for most of his life, except for when he lived with his dad for about six years in the Rio Grande Valley.
Brent graduated from Edison High School in 1984; and attended San Antonio College.
Brents life was an adventure that he and his deep faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ, orchestrated. He never met a stranger. He stopped to help anyone in need. He had a huge heart. He would give you the shirt off his back. He loved his family, but most of all, he loved The Lord. Brent also loved the outdoors, along with all of Gods creatures, and truly enjoyed the beaches of Texas and Hawaii.
Brent also loved reggae music, especially the "Everything, Is Gonna Be Alright" music of Bob Marley. And while listening to his favorite reggae tune, Brent also enjoyed Mexican food and could be seen around town, often with friends and family, at one of his many favorite eating establishments.
Brents career led him in many directions but soon found that he enjoyed working for himself and did landscaping and power washing for anyone that needed a helping hand.
Coming from a family with a dad that was an ordained minister, worshipping The Lord was important to Brent, and he found his church home at The Little Church of La Villita, especially for their work in feeding the homeless. He was also blessed with his mothers purest, unconditional love. Brents nurturing in the Lord was further enhanced by grandparents Rosa Lee and Robert Jones and Consuelo and Pedro Castillo, devout Christian lay people who preceded him in death.
Brent also loved his three children, Faith Lynn, Ezekiel "Zeke" Benigno, Juliette Isabel, and stepson, Gage Acevedo.
Brent is survived by his children, Faith, Ezekiel, Juliette and Gage; his former spouse, Wendy Lynn Perkins; his mother, Shirley Marie Jones Castillo, his father, Bennie Castillo and his wife Martha, his siblings Di-Anna Ren Arias (Roger), RoxAnna Lavon Castillo, Christol Dene Farris (Edward), and Remmy Bradford Castillo, along with numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He is also survived by his beloved aunt that cared for him during his illness, Carmelina Genett, and his faithful dog, Slick, whom he loved dearly.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, 10:00 am, at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Avenue, San Antonio Texas, with interment to follow at 1:00 pm at Devine Evergreen Cemetery in Devine, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Bennie Brent can be made to The Little Church of La Villitas Feeding the Homeless Outreach Program.
The family wishes to express its thanks to the doctors and nurses at University Hospital for their exceptional care.
