She was born in Vinton, LA on December 13, 1921.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Peter Cameron Henry of Lake Charles, LA; mother, Besse Hampton; father, Joseph Clifton Henry; aunt, Lavonia Hampton Dews; brothers, Hampton Dews and Charles Dews.
Bennie survived by her three children, Patricia Wren Henry of Cameron, LA; Peter Cameron Henry, Jr. of Junction, TX and Jane Ann Henry of San Antonio, TX; two granddaughters, Morgan Lee Henry and Paige Cameron Henry; one great-granddaughter, Genevieve Henry; and her granddog, Beau Henry. Her belief in God was richly evident in her life as a devoted and loving wife, mother, friend, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She lived with joy and a sense of purpose in her heart to do her best for family and friends. She repeatedly said how the most important things in life are family and friends. Those beliefs kept her connected and busy with the services of God's plan in her life.
We are adults now, instead of being her children and it is clear to the heart and eye that she was in God's master plan as we see His footprints beside hers from the beginning of her journey until His coming as He and Dad took her hand and they walked together into His glorious rest and kingdom. He was there for the heartaches in her life and the joyous celebrations in her life. What a witness of His faith and steadfastness for each of us she showed.
She was born in Vinton, LA. Mom was reared by her mother's sister, Lavonia Hampton Dews, after her mother died in childbirth. She loved and adored her Aunt and her Aunt's two sons. They called each other brother and sister and truly never thought otherwise. Mom was the daughter her aunt, Lavonia, did not have.
She graduated from Longview High School in Longview, TX. She attended Southwestern University in Lafayette. She married Peter Cameron Henry of Lake Charles, LA in the Chapel of Texas A&M on the same day our Dad graduated from Texas A&M as he was inducted into the Air-Corps.
Mom kept active throughout her life by always participating in her children's different school activities; devoted to the care and love of her husband, children and family; she enjoyed bridge with friends, tennis, swimming, traveling, sewing, cooking, church activities, Bluebird and Campfire leader, and Methodist Hospital Bluebird volunteer in San Antonio.
As her children, we have been blessed by knowing she was there for us our entire life.
The family is tremendously grateful to her life-long friends that embraced her and celebrated life in her journey toward our Heavenly Father. Her children are filled with love and appreciation for her private care givers that made "Miss Bennie" feel very special and loved every day. A deep sense of gratitude goes to the all encompassing staff at the Extended Care Unit at the Incarnate Word Retirement Center in San Antonio.
Mom was so blessed to live daily in God's house of prayer filled with the Holy Spirit, witnessed by the loving sisters that served our Lord all their lives who are also residents there.
As one of Mom's dear friends said, "Bennie made wonderful memories with whoever she was with".
A Memorial Service of Thanksgiving and Celebration will be held in the Incarnate Word Care Center Chapel, 4707 Broadway, San Antonio, Texas, 78209, at a later date.
Memorial gifts may be made to one's charity of choice in Bennie's memory.
