Bernadette Marietta Beck, age 64, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on April 1, 1957 in Cleveland, Ohio to Emily Lada and Ralph Lishko. She was one of four children raised in a military family where they were stationed at several overseas locations in Europe and here in the United States. Bernadette graduated high school and college in Florida. After graduation she joined the United States Marine Corp where she worked as an Air Traffic Controller at various locations in the United States. Her career then continued in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). During her tenure with the FAA she worked as an Air Traffic Controller, a Support Staff Specialist, and a Front Line Supervisor. She worked with the FAA at Shreveport, Louisiana, Corpus Christi, Texas, and she ended her career and retired after 34 years of service in San Antonio, Texas, the city she loved. Never one to sit around, she shared her wisdom and experience by teaching the new generation of Air Traffic Controllers. She worked as a contractor for the government with Washington Consulting Group, Raytheon, and SAIC. Bernadette was dedicated and loved training and teaching new Air Traffic Control students as they began their career. During her off-time Bernadette was a dedicated and avid runner. Her joy of running started at the early age of 14. Over the last 45 years she trained by running 35 to 40 miles a week, then competed in 5K races during the weekend. Bernadette competed in over 2500 races during her running tenure. She was a member of the San Antonio Road Runners Club and various other running organizations. She volunteered her services at the San Antonio Food Bank and was a member of Oak Hills (Crownridge) Church where she participated in womens bible studies and several charitable events like food distributions and the first annual Trunk or Treat. Although we are left with emptiness in our hearts, yet, we find comfort in knowing she now walks with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, free of any suffering. While our hearts are broken by the loss, we are blessed to have known such an amazing woman. She is remembered as a thoughtful and joyful aunt, Godmother, wife, and sister. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emily, and Ralph Lishko. Bernadette is survived by her husband, Henry E. Beck; son Justin Beck; her brother Gregory Lishko and his wife Barbara; her brother Mark Lishko and his wife Barbara; her sister Renee Page; and seven nieces and nephews and all their children.
The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 20, 2021 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
