

Lt. Colonel Bernadette F. Calnon, USAF (Retired) entered into rest on April 23, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on 2 August 1920 in Detroit, Michigan to the late George and Margaret O’Farrell Fahrenkopf. She was a graduate of Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit. She retired at Randolph Air Force Base after 24 years of service as a nurse administrator in the USAF Nurse Corps. Following her military career she worked for 10 years as an office nurse for Dr. M. A. Childers in Alamo Heights.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Jack F. Calnon and father of her step children, Dan Calnon, Judith Gilliam and Susan Snowden. Other survivors include her sisters, Mary Frances Runstadler, Geraldine Bauer, Rita Plant; and brothers, George Fahrenkopf and James Fahrenkopf; sister-in-law, Marion Bonetie; also nine step grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Colonel Calnon was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Parish Council of Catholic Women, Retired Air Force Nurses Association, Retired Officers Association, St. Patrick/Joseph Children’s Home, Catholic Daughters and several bridge groups.
The family would like to thank N.E. Baptist Hospital, the Acuity Hospital for their special care; her care givers, Ramona Servantz, GiGi Bueno and Dora Samano for their continuous love and care; and especially to all the friends who sent cards and flowers.
A rosary will be recited at 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3303 Urban Crest Dr. SATX 78209. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the church with Msgr. Liam Brosnan, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
Family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Pius X Catholic School, Guardian Angel Program or to the charity of one’s choice.
