Bernardino Villaseñor, PFC, U.S. Army, was born in Laredo, Texas on May 24, 1924 and was called home to be with the Lord, on October 2, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Santiago & Elijia Villaseñor. Bernardino began his service at the young age of 19 when he was drafted to serve during WWII under General Patton in the U.S. Third Army (March 1943-December 1945).
As a trained medic and mustard gas specialist, his efforts helped save the lives of many wounded soldiers that were ultimately sent to the UK and U.S. for further treatment. During the liberation of France, his detachment landed on Utah Beach during the invasion of Normandy and served just behind the front lines.
He vividly recalled marching under the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe, as the allies liberated France. As their march through France and Germany continued, his detachment, under the leadership of General Patton, was responsible for the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp. Given Mr. Villaseñor's role as a medic, he was one of the first onsite to offer care to the wounded. He received multiple honors for his service in the U.S. Army, including the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars.
He completed his service with the U.S. Army and began a civil service career at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, where he spent twenty-seven years.
Bernardino is survived by his loving wife of 68 years of marriage, Maria Villaseñor; his beloved children, Bernie (Yadira), Raul (Terry), Albert, Louis (Rosa Elva), Terry (Joe), John, David and 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. The funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 9:30 am on Friday, October 5, 2018 for a 10:00 am Mass of the Resurrection at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church with Interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery II.
