

Bernice Real Anstice, born February 27, 1919, entered rest on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the age of 92. She was born to Benno Real and Ella Achterberg on a farm outside Converse, TX. She attended Converse schools, Brackenridge High School and Draughan’s Business School. She worked for San Antonio Armature Works for 47 Years, and for H and R Block doing part time seasonal work. She was a member of Community United Church of Christ and was Past Keynote Chapter President of the A.B.W.A. She was active as a volunteer with the Nix Hospital, Community United Church of Christ and the Jefferson Neighborhood Assn. Bernice is survived by a Son, Gary Anstice and wife Debra, Grandsons Michael and Matthew, siblings: Elvira Downing, Benno Real, Jr., and Lucille England, and 7 nephews and nieces; and many other relatives and friends. Bernice died peacefully on Saturday morning March 5, 2011 after a valiant battle with leukemia. Thanks to Dr. Deur and Dr. Shroyer and their staff in Arlington, Texas. Thanks also to the doctors and nurses at Arlington Memorial Hospital in emergency and on the 4th floor, and the staff at Community hospice. Bernice loved life and was a tireless volunteer for several causes. She fought until the very end and will be truly missed by all of us but will remain an inspiration forever. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2011 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 11:00am at Sunset Funeral Chapel. Entombment to follow at Sunset Mausoleum.
