

Bernice Lieke McSween, 91 of San Antonio, Texas passed peacefully at Bella Groves Assisted Living, with her loving family at her bedside on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. A native Texan, Bernice was born in Karnes City, Texas; the only child to Ida and Harry Lieke.
Bernice lived out her faith and was an active member of Cornerstone Church for over 40 years.Among her many achievements, she was awarded the national “Best Dressed Working Woman” in 1960, the “Secretary of the Year” in 1962 and the “Outstanding Service Award” in 1965. “Million Dollar Circle Club” award multiple years as a REALTOR. She cherished her volunteer work with the National Heart Association.
She worked tirelessly in the office at Lone Star Brewery and as a swimsuit model there as well. She began her corporate career with IBM. Then, she found her life’s calling and enjoyed a very successful career in San Antonio as a REALTOR/Broker. Held in the highest regard by her peers in the industry; she was a valued partner and guide to so many San Antonio families through the years; working until she was in her 80’s.
While her life is marked by much achievement and countless friends, Bernice’s most cherished role was that of wife to her beloved partner, John, with whom she held an abiding love during their 42 years of marriage. Their partnership was truly an inspiration to their children, their friends and extended family. They traveled extensively around the world, including many cruises together with their large family and cherished annual large family gatherings at Oak Hills Country Club. While she will be missed dearly, it brings her family and friends much comfort that she and her beloved, John, are once again reunited and dancing in Heaven - a place we can only imagine - together for the rest of eternity.She is survived by her 4 loving daughters: Lee Ann and husband Rodney Magee, Erin and husband, Russell Chollett, Michele Walters and Melissa and husband, Jeff Patrello. Bernice’s 23 grandchildren are Lindsay (Jonathan) Holliday, Chelsea (Eric) Conn, Brooke (Derek)Moczygemba, Monica (Jake) Haley, Natalie Palmer, Keith (Aly)Magee, Ashley (Richard) Briseno, Amy (Ray) Corona, Mackenzie Chollett (her fiancé, Mason Minister), Josh Walters, Renee Walters, Dylan (Nathan) Navarro, Madison Patrello, Boone Patrello, Tex Patrello and Dutch Patrello. She was blessed with 24 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her Stepsister, Merlene Rippstein and many other loving family members.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, John R. McSween, her step brother-in-law, Robert Glenn Rippstein, Sr.; Stepbrother, Delbert James Boysen and wife, Betty Boysen.
She faced the challenge of her final years with the grace and dignity of the LADY she was.The family is eternally grateful for the staff at Bella Groves Assisted Living for caring and loving Bernice as if she were family.
