She would have spent every day outside in her garden if she could have. We built her raised beds to grow vegetables and flowers, and in the last decade of her life that garden grew, until you couldn’t step outside without being surrounded by bees and butterflies and hummingbirds. She’d watch them from her porch. Life welled up inside her, and spilled out until life grew everywhere around her, too.
She was beautiful. She smiled wide and laughed hard. She knew how to poke fun at herself, but never poked fun at others. She loved Christ with all her heart. She was so much smarter than she believed herself to be, and she tried to grow each day.
Bertha is survived by her spouse, her three daughters, her two grandchildren, and her siblings Celina, Homero, Sonia, and Socorro. We loved her. We’ll love her always. We’ll see her again soon.
Bertha’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at Porter Loring West in San Antonio, Texas. Public visitation will begin at 8:00 am. Chapel Service will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, and a reception will follow from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Her committal service will be held at Resurrection Cemetery at Cordi Marian at 2:00 pm.
