

Bertram was born forty-five minutes before his fraternal twin brother, Lewis, in Manhattan, NY, to Sarah Noland and Albert Lindo on March 26, 1937. He attended PS 90 Elementary School, Frederick Douglass High School, and DeWitt Clinton Senior High School in New York City. After leaving high school, Bertram and his brother Lewis enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in April 1954.
He later earned a master’s degree in social work from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1990. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he completed two tours, and served in both the Marine Corps and the Army, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major (CSM).
His military honors include the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), National Defense Service Medal with one Service Star, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Service Star, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (5), Naval Occupation Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Aircraft Crewman Badge, and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation Badge with Palm.
Bertram is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Lindo; his twin brother, Lewis Lindo; his parents, Albert Lindo and Sarah Noland; his sister, Joyce Elaine Lindo; and his aunt, Delia Luisa Ortega.
He is survived by his son, Anthony Lindo of South Carolina; daughter, Michelle Lewis of Texas; stepdaughters, Kristie Scott of Gainesville, GA, and Bianca Adams of San Antonio, TX; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Visitation and Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
Burial services will take place at 10:45 AM on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Fort Sam National Cemetery.
