Bow was born on September 30, 1951 in Monahans, Texas to Oliver and Mary Louise Wood. He was the youngest of three brothers, Gerald (Jerry) and John Wood.
He went to Monahans High and cherished the many friends he made there. Later, he graduated from UT Austin with a BBA in Accounting, followed by a JD from St. Mary’s Law School. He worked at various jobs as he made his way through law school.
He received his board certification in criminal law and worked as a lawyer for 40 years as a criminal defense attorney. He was a part of the TCDLA (Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association). He enjoyed being a member of Mastersingers for five years and, as a theatre lover, served several years on the Playhouse Board of Directors.
In his free time, he also enjoyed his hobbies: travel, singing in the choir, and making friends. It was in the choir where he met and courted his future wife Lisa Demmy. The pair were married at Grace Presbyterian Church, the place where they met. August 25th 2023 would have been their 33rd anniversary.
A lifelong Presbyterian, Bow modeled how to be a Christian husband, father, and friend. He sang in the choir and served as elder and deacon at Grace Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church. He was thankful for the Saturday Men’s Bible study at San Pedro Presbyterian.
His parents instilled in him a great love of travel. He enjoyed all the phases of travel, from the planning, through the journey itself, and especially reminiscing about all the adventures! He liked all the places he visited, but London always held a special place in his heart.
A voracious reader, Bow could always be counted on for some great book recommendations. He especially appreciated all the staff at Central Library
He also enjoyed musical theatre, spending many evenings at the Majestic downtown as well as local theaters such as the Playhouse and the Woodlawn. Many summers were spent taking his beloved daughter to theater camp (in addition to regular camping trips with the Adventure Guides troop). Football was another interest of his. He was an avid Longhorns fan, of course. And, naturally, telling terrible jokes was another one of his favored pastimes.
Bow was a force of nature. He never met a stranger. He had a bright, big smile and always ready with a kind, encouraging word. He lit up any room he entered. We who are left behind will miss him forever.
He is survived by his wife Lisa Demmy Wood, daughter Hannah Wood, mother-in-law Isabel Demmy, brother John Wood, sister-in-law Brenda Wood, nephew Ryan Wood, niece Mary Margaret Cummings, niece Valerie Garcia, and nephew-in-law Jeff Garcia and many cousins.
Donations in memory of Bow can be made to either Grace Presbyterian Church (950 Donaldson, San Antonio, Tx 78228) or Mo Ranch Presbyterian Assembly (mo-ranch.org or mail to Mo Ranch Presbyterian Assembly, 2229 FM 1349, Hunt, TX, 78024).
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church (950 Donaldson) in San Antonio. A reception will be held afterwards in the fellowship hall.
