Born in Chillicothe, TX on April 30, 1917 to Maggie Bess Stewart and Marion Kelly Nelson, she grew up in and graduated from the Oddfellows orphanage in Corsicana, TX.
Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Starnes, Sr.; and two siblings, Hazel Taylor and Neill Nelson.
She is survived by her four children, Mary Beth Brasington and her husband, John, Larry Starnes and his wife, Ernestine, Brenda Mollenkopf and her husband, Doug, and Kelly Starnes and his wife, Cathy; grandchildren, Timothy Brasington, Lynn Brasington Barnett, Lynn Starnes Nelson, Jennifer Starnes, Lauren Starnes, Gregory Starnes, Jonathan Mollenkopf, David Mollenkopf, Daniel Mollenkopf, and Jeremy Mollenkopf; 7 great grandchildren; a nephew; numerous nieces and friends.
