When I was in elementary school and I had sick days, I spent these days with Grandma at Grandma's house. I vividly remember so much about these days because they were so impactful for me. In the morning, it was so early and it would still be dark out. I would be sitting at her kitchen table, my mom would be on the phone with my school, telling them that I wouldn't be going in. Grandma would be in her PJ's brewing up a pot of coffee. The lights in her house were soft, and the smell of coffee filled the air. My mom would then go off to work, and I'd take a nap, with Grandma wrapping me up in a cozy blanket. Grandma and the environment she kept were always so comforting.

    During the day, she would watch her cooking shows. She loved her cooking shows. She would write down the recipe, following along while the show was playing. And there was no rewinding or pausing of TV back then. I once asked her how she could keep up with them, writing along and not miss anything. She laughed and said, "you just write down the parts you need." Simple, wise words.

    Grandma loved cooking, and I loved her mexican rice. She would always make that for me when I spent these days with her, because she knew I loved it, and I was such a picky eater. Indeed, Grandma was so loving and thoughtful.

    Grandma was an excellent care-taker because she truly cared so much. She always made me feel loved and safe. In true Grandma fashion, with only keeping the parts you need, I will forever keep these days in my heart because they were some of my favorite. So much so, that I sometimes pretended to be sick when I really wasn't. And Grandma could always tell when I was faking it. But she never told my mom on me. I like to think that that was because she also cherished these days.

Our sincere condolences for all the Family of our dear TORC friend Bess !!! Rest in Peace my bonita amiga .. until we see again !! Maybe when we see again we can do our gym 💪🏻 together 🥹

"I hoped to share a memory with you of Grandma"

The truth is, all the memories mix together.

There’s a million magical Christmas Eves at Grandma’s house. And so many sunny summer trips to Cancun.

How we hunted in Grandma’s backyard for plastic Easter eggs filled with quarters, counting up our dollars and hearing Grandma say “that’s enough to go to the movies!”

It’s Grandma celebrating our graduations and birthdays and asking us—how is school? How is work?

Laughing over margaritas, Grandma nodding to mariachi songs that we’ve all heard so many times that us grandkids almost know the words. “Y volver, volver, volver” the memories also return.

We were always on our way to Grandma’s house to celebrate something. We’d walk in and there she is—cooking in her apron, arms open wide, ready to welcome us with a hug.

In the weeks before Christmas, Grandma’s house turned into a cookie baking factory—dozens upon dozens, fresh and homemade, filled her dining room table.

Among those cookies, the shining star—Grandma Bessie’s powdered sugar cookies. If you’ve baked them, you know—shaping them is the hardest part. Too much dough or too little—I always need to reshape them, fingers slippery with Crisco, never quite like
hers.

Grandma lived for her family and showed us how valuable it is to enjoy life together.

She was warmth and humor and strength. She shaped our lives by how she lived and who she was. She shaped us.

How lucky that the memories blend together into the sum total of our childhoods.

We’ll carry on her traditions and spirit; she is always with us. And we’ll try our best to shape those powder sugar cookies into perfect little moons, just like Grandma’s.

To My Beautiful Aunt Bessie.   I will miss talking to you and laughing with you.   You remind me so much of my Mom, (your dear sister, Mary).  I am finding some comfort to know that you are united in heaven and will continue the laughter and memories.   Love Always, your niece Pat (from California).

Mrs Bessie, you will be missed. Thank you for always treating us like family. You welcomed us with open arms and never treated us any different.  You are a Godly woman. We love you and will miss you.

With heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Ms. Wilkins.   May God’s Word bring you comfort, and may you find strength in knowing that others share in your sorrow. Losing someone we love is one of the most difficult trials we face in life. Yet the Bible gives us hope! It points to a beautiful future, as Isaiah 25:8 (and Revelation 21:3,4) promises: “God will actually swallow up death forever and Jehovah God will certainly wipe the tears from all faces.” Please also read John 5:28,29. These wonderful verses have brought comfort to many who are grieving, myself included. I truly hope they bring you peace as well.  Once again, my deepest and sincerest condolences.
