Bessie was a devoted homemaker who expressed her care through hospitality and a steady, loving presence. She cherished her family deeply and was known as an attentive mother—always available, always engaged, and especially active in the lives of her children. In countless quiet, faithful ways, she made home a place of welcome and comfort for family and friends. She had a gift for making birthdays and holidays feel truly special, often marked by the familiar warmth of baking her powder sugar cookies and her pecan pies. Simple family gatherings were always festive and full of joy & love. We are grateful for her love, wisdom, strength & encouragement.
As a devout Catholic, Bessie’s faith shaped the rhythm of her life. She dedicated herself to volunteer work at St. James, where her children attended elementary school. During the last 50 years she attended St. Mark’s & served in the St. Vincent De Paul Department and as an usher for as long as she was able. She continued until she could no longer walk—an enduring reflection of her steadfast devotion and sense of service.
Beyond home and church, Bessie found joy in our annual family vacations to Mexico. Her favorite beaches: were Cancun, the Mayan Riviera, Isla Mujeres & her last trip to Puerto Vallarta in 2019. She also delighted in country music and had a particular love for mariachi music. Sounds that brought her happiness and filled her days with spirit and tradition that she passed on to all of us.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rudy Wilkins, Jr. (1998); and her siblings, Mary Bertha Mena (2023), and Rudy Gomez (2025). Bessie is survived by her loving sons & daughters: Linda Wilkins, Cynthia Wilkins Jewett, Elaine Zamanian & her husband Zaman, David Wilkins; and step-son, Rudy Wilkins III & his wife Helen.
