Bettie Conrad, age 84, passed away on June 4, 2019. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 16, 1934. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Bettie was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Ramona Shockey; her 7 siblings; her son, Joseph “Jody” Conrad; and her husband, Joe W. Conrad.

She is survived by her children, Candace Elliott (Neil), and Cindy Butler (Robert); her grandchildren, Cory, Andrew, Stephen , Madeline, Isabella, William; her great-granddaughter, Jade Elyse; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She loved to cook, bake, sew, and entertain her many friends from garden club, canasta/bunco groups, and Joe’s golf. But best of all, she enjoyed being MoMo to her grandchildren. After her devastating stroke 18 years ago took her voice and left her paralyzed, she didn’t let the wheelchair get in the way of living life to the fullest. Combined with the strength and determination of Joe, they were an inspiration to her family.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 11th from 6-8 pm at Sunset Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be Wednesday, June 12th at 11:00 am at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to a hospice agency of your choice.

I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the friends and especially to the family of Bettie Conrad. Her dogged endurance while suffering the aftermath of a debilitating stroke was a testament to her strength and resolve to life and to love for her husband, Joe, and for her ever growing family.

Having had the good fortune to know her when she was in good health, I enjoyed and admired her effervescent demeanor and upbeat deportment. I never heard her say a mean thing, ever. I especially relished her spirit of inclusiveness. She was the Conrad family reunion coordinator par excellent.

I am especially grateful for having had her a fixture in my life. Although sad to learn of her death, I am comforted to know that she is finally free of her earthly sufferings and reunited with her adoring husband Joe. Pax Vobiscum Bettie

I have memories of Bettie Conrad that go back to when I was about 8 or 9 yrs old. As a classmate of Cindy's, from time to time there were gatherings and birthday parties. I have a vivid memory of the first time I met Bettie. I thought she was so beautiful and so full of happiness and energy. That continued to be my observation about Cindy's mother through high school. My heartfelt condolences to Cindy and the family. God's blessings on Bettie Conrad.

Cindy, my thoughts for comfort and strength are with you. Aunt Bettie was always so kind during family visits, and I always remember her being so happy and gracious to see everyone. I loved being able to see her a few times in the last several years and remember how she loved pretty jewelry. Now she and Uncle Joe can Rest In Peace together.
