Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Betty V. Arias, age 77, entered into final rest on Monday, December 21, 2015. Although her last days became exceedingly difficult, she passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side. One difficulty was certainly not being able to walk and move around as she always liked to do, but she faced her last days with the same quiet determination as she had throughout her life.
To those who did not know her, she was quiet and reserved. However, her family and friends knew her as good natured and full of love. Her Devotion to her family was clearly her most important focus. For Betty, her children and husband were her life and no sacrifice was too great for her family.
For all, life is limited, but she certainly enjoyed life. She was not a fan of football unless her son was playing or her husband was really excited about a game. However, she enjoyed watching baseball and cheering on her Spurs. She passed many hours tending her garden as she loved flowers and roses, the wonderful scents and colors. She used to enjoy walking through her neighborhood almost daily helping her maintain a healthy life.
We would like to give gratitude for her love and devotion. Betty graduated from Lanier High School in 1957. She was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church for 42 years. She volunteered for the church for many years and worked at St. Luke Catholic School for 10 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe and Concepcion Villarreal and brothers: Maximiliano Villarreal, Juan Villarreal, Gilbert Villarreal and Luis Villarreal. Betty is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Rudy R. Arias; daughter, Maricela Arias-Cantu and son-in-law, Rick; son, Richard Arias and daughter-in-law, Sylvia Cisneros; grandchildren: Richard Matthew Cantu, Bruce Michael Arias, Salma Raquel Cantu and Ava Gabrielle Cantu; sisters: Emma Aranda and Maria Lupe Markham and numerous nieces and nephews. The Arias family would like to thank Dr. Gladys Rodriguez and her staff, Jennifer and Diana from the START Center; Director Mary, Savannah, Marisa and Stacy from 8th floor South at Methodist Hospital; and Rebecca Hern, Barbara, Lisa Corona and Adrian Martinez from Vitas Innovative Hospice Care Inpatient Unit for the excellent care they gave Betty.
