Except for a brief time during WWII, she lived in San Antonio. She graduated from Alamo Heights High School, S.A.C. and UT/Austin.
In 1961, she married Channing (Chan) Benton.
Betty was friendly, outgoing, and articulate; traits which made her a natural when she chose market research interviewing and substitute teaching as career paths.
A "born" traveler, Betty enjoyed many U.S. car trips with Chan and their sons. She traveled with Chan on many business trips for USAA and they also visited London and the Cotswolds.
Betty was President of a church guild called St. Anne's; she was also a co-sponsor of young churchmen's activities.
She had decades-long association with three friends who called themselves "The Ladies of the Club", and she joined 12 other ladies for 20-plus years of BUNCO.
Betty's visits with former neighbors developed into a special couple-to-couple friendship which has spanned more than 35 years.
Besides Chan and her sons, Mark Channing and wife, Pam, and Stuart Martyn Benton, Betty is survived by her aunt, Betty Leedom; grandchildren: Paige Channing Benton and Grant Williams Benton; great-granddaughter, Scarlett Olivia Claire Benton; sisters, Patsy Barr and husband, David; Lorraine Glasscock and husband, Albert; nieces and nephews.
