

Betty Sue Walker Davis, 93, of San Antonio, Texas, ascended to her heavenly home on January 19, 2024, in Lampasas, Texas. She was born on July 10, 1930, in Copperas Cove, Texas, to the late Carl and Ruth Walker. Betty was a nurturing and simple woman who dedicated her life to her family and church.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Susan Davis (Mike), and son-in-law, LD Jones. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Gloria Walker, and her granddaughters: Ryann Magee (Dustin), Lindsey Davenport, and Amanda Rosales (Raulie). Betty was a proud great-grandmother to Dorothy, Natalie, Madison, Sophia, Edward, Lillian, Violet, Sophia, and Catalina. She also leaves behind her nieces: Tobi Hitt (Randy) and Karen Walker, as well as her nephew, Jay Walker (Beth), and many great nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Edward Davis, her daughter, Laura Jones, and her sisters, Dorothy Jean Noel, Gladys Love, and brother, JC "Buddy" Walker. She was also preceded in death by her nephews, Ray Love, and Carlton Wayne Walker.
Betty attended Copperas Cove High School where she graduated at the age of 16 and later pursued her education at IBM Business School. She married the love of her life George Davis in the First Baptist Church in Copperas Cove, Texas on 21 July 1951. Together they moved around the United States during George's military career until finally settling in San Antonio. Throughout her life, Betty held various roles, including wife, homemaker, operating the Christian Bookmark Bookstore with husband George and lifelong friends, Malcolm and Pat Lancaster, Lin and Jane Jolly. Always willing to lend a helping hand, she wore many hats for her friends and family but was never too busy to stop and enjoy her favorite Texas wildflowers.
Betty was an active member of Wayside Chapel for many years, where she found solace and strength in her faith. She was often volunteering her time to teach Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and Mothers of Preschoolers. She cherished her time spent there and valued the community and friendships she found within the church.
In her free time, Betty enjoyed pursuing her hobbies, which included ceramics, sewing, and being a part of organizations such as the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and Stephen F Austin's Old 300. She was also an avid fan of the San Antonio Spurs basketball team, and rarely missed watching their games.
Betty will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her memory will forever be cherished, and her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
A celebration of life will take place on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Avenue, San Antonio, Texas 78212. You may greet the family prior to the service. Betty will be laid to rest on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
