Betty was a graduate of Alice High School and Baylor University. After her college graduation, she taught business education courses at Forsan High School and Navarro High School in Geronimo, TX. After earning her Library Science certification, she served as an elementary school librarian for the San Marcos CISD for 27 years.
After her retirement in 1993, Betty was commissioned as a volunteer missionary for the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, and was assigned to school libraries in American Samoa, Harlingen, TX, and at San Marcos Academy.
A devout Christian throughout her life, Betty was a firm believer in being the “hands of Jesus” and offering her assistance whenever it was needed. As a long-time resident of Wimberley, she was often seen in the community volunteering at various civic organizations, the Wimberley Community Thrift Store, and at the First Baptist Church. She participated in several mission trips, including one to China to teach English, and another to Russia to provide much-needed supplies to an orphanage.
She is survived by her daughters, Connie Weber (John) and Marcy Tarter (Robert), and grandchildren John Weber III (Emily) and Amy Weber.
Her family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Aging Gracefully Assisted Living and Good Shepherd Hospice for their loving and attentive care of Betty during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the Wimberley Community Library Summer Reading Program https://wimberleylibrary.org/summer-reading-donation/, the Martindale Community Library https://www.martindalelibrary.org/donate/ or the charity of your choice.
