

Betty Preston Stokes, age 88, entered the gates of glory into the presence of her precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her beloved husband, Powell Burton Stokes, on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. She was born on March 25, 1928 in Monroe, Georgia to Willie Mae Harris and James Otto Preston.
Betty attended Sophie Newcomb College where she met the love of her life, Burton Stokes, to whom she was married for 65 years. She also attended University of Georgia where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After moving to San Antonio, Betty served as president of the local chapter and the Area Board for Women's Aglow Fellowship. She was also the Director of the International Conference of Women's Aglow Fellowship in 1989.
Betty was an ordained minister and authored a devotional book, We Would C Jesus. As Burton's wife, she served alongside him at Living Faith Church for over 22 years.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Susan Shaked (Dr. Ze'ev), Julia Stokes Bulkeley (Chip), Betsy Leifeste (Rodney), and Lynn Lucas; grandchildren, Seth Burton Stokes-Leifeste, James Isaiah Franco, Margaret Elizabeth Rogers, Ashley Elizabeth Dickinson, Jennifer Julia Stokes, Angela Stokes Wauson; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Porter Loring on McCullough.
