Bettye Bridgman Crow-Peterson, of Lytle and San Antonio, passed away at the age of 72 years, Saturday, July 21, 2001, after a long struggle with renal disease and diabetes. Born on November 14, 1928 in San Angelo, she was the beloved only child of Lena Ussery Bridgman Dietert and James Earl Bridgman, who preceded her in death in 1965 and 1971, respectively. Raised in San Antonio and in South Texas, she graduated from Mark Twain Junior High School in 1941 and the former Main Avenue High School in 1945. On September 5, 1947, she married William Raymond Crow, her beloved first husband and the father of her four children. Their marriage was a happy and loving union for the 39 years they were married until Raymond's death in 1986. In 1990, she married Charles W. Chuck Peterson, and they lived together happily until his death in 1996. She is survived by the four children she adored, and who adored her in return; son, Bill Crow and wife, Margaret of San Antonio; daughter, Karen Kuentz and husband, Max of Arlington; son, Kenneth Crow of Lytle; and daughter, Terri Pointer and husband, Bill of San Antonio; three grandchildren, Michael Kuentz of Arlington, Jennifer Kuentz of College Station, and Sarah Pointer of San Antonio; stepson, Charles W. Bill Peterson and wife, Sandra of Boise, ID; stepdaughter, Nancy Burns and husband, Charles of Lytle, and their children. A longtime member of the Lytle United Methodist Church, Bettye had served as secretary of the Official Board of the Church, as well as many other community activities on behalf of her children, including the Lytle Parent Teacher Association and the Lytle Band Boosters organization, both of which she served as president. For all her life, she was an outstanding daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all those who knew her. In her last years, she was courageous in the face of chronic illness and she persevered to live each day to the fullest and to serve God by serving her fellow man. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. The family acknowledges with profound gratitude the superb medical care Bettye received from Doctors Neal Meritz, Claudia Hura, Rafael Santiago, and Brant Ellis; the professional staff of the Northwest Kidney Disease Center, as well as the expert team of nurses at Hallmark Homecare and the special loving care given her by Ofelia Alvarez.
