Beverly Jean La Mar Craig- Fuos was born on June 22, 1928, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Florence (Dolly} and Virgil Callaway La Mar. Beverly graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in the class of 1948. Beverly became a Christian and formally joined Crown Heights Christian Church at the age of 8. The Lord touched her heart and she walked down the aisle, alone, to give her life to Christ. Her mother taught her to say the "Lord's Prayer" throughout every trial in her life and she was always grateful for having loving parents who loved the Lord.
In the Fall of 1948, Beverly began pursuing her Business Administration Degree at Oklahoma State University. She was a proud member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and enjoyed every minute of her life in college. In year two at Oklahoma State she met and married James Calvin Craig. They were married for 34 years prior, to his death in 1983. Together they raised four children, Steven, Scott, Jayme and Stuart. Traditions were a top priority for Beverly and many of them were realized through the lives of her children. Every one of her children spent time at Camp Capers Episcopal Church Camp; they actively participated in St. Luke's Episcopal Church by being an acolyte; all four obtained a Bachelors degree plus 2 obtained a Masters degree; and they all married and blessed her with 2 or more grandchildren. Most importantly, they all four believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. She considered this as her greatest achievement.
For many years, Beverly made the Eucharistic candles for St. Luke's, as a hobby, and worked at the James Avery Shop of the Winged Ox, which was located on the St. Luke's property. All of the proceeds from the shop were donated to the church miscellaneous fund. During of the holidays, she decorated her home beautifully for every season and used this time to celebrate with family and friends.
On April 6, 1986, Beverly married Colonel Alton Charles Fuos. He had 8 years left to serve in the Air Force Reserves, and they immediately received orders to move to Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Illinois. They built a beautiful house on a lake, joined St. George's Episcopal Church and made lifelong friends with whom they stayed in touch with for many years. In 1995, they moved back to their hometown of San Antonio, Texas and transferred their membership back to St. Luke's Episcopal Church where they were lovingly welcomed by the friends they had made in earlier years. Beverly and Al spent their retirement years traveling to some of their favorite places like Hawaii, Alaska, New Zealand. London and Australia.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Dolly and Virgil La Mar, her late husband, James C. Craig and her late husband Alton C. Fuos. She is survived by her four children; her 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Beverly will fondly be remembered by teaching her children to love everyone equally and unconditionally, and to always forgive, no matter what the offense. She lived her life according to Mark 12:30-31 which says, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commandment than these."
Beverly Jean La Mar Craig-Fuos entered into the arms of her heavenly Father on October 31, 2026. Funeral Services will be held on November 19, 2026, at St. Lukes Episcopal Church; 11 St. Lukes Lane; San Antonio, Texas 78209.
