Beverly was born in Montague, Muskegon County, Michigan to Everett Kittridge and Marie Schmiedeknecht on January 31, 1933. She attended Montague public schools and received a degree from Western Michigan University. She married Robert B. Westbrook on February 6, 1954, in Montague. She had many jobs throughout her life, including working on an asparagus farm, ice cream shop clerk, and social worker; but her love and her life’s work was teaching. She worked as a teacher, including elementary grades, special needs, and art, in Michigan and Texas for over fifty years. Bev and Bob moved the family from Michigan to San Antonio, Texas in the summer of 1966.
In the late 1970’s Bev and Bob became “parents” to British exchange student Sue Smith Gray. Sue has been part of the family ever since and always called Bob and Bev “dad and mom.”
In 1967, Bob started work at Commercial Body Corporation where he worked for many years until he retired. After he retired from Commercial Body, he took a short-term job with a firm in California, so he and Bev lived in Redlands, California before going back home to Texas. When they returned to Texas, Bob and Bev moved to their house on Lake LBJ and lived there for the next 30 years, where they made dozens of friends. They were active socially, and especially enjoyed their participation in the “Beachers,” the local, lawn-chair, precision marching brigade. They performed in many parades and festivals across the state. Bob was a member of the volunteer fire department and Bev was a member of the auxiliary. In 2021, Bev and Bob moved back to San Antonio to be closer to family.
Among her many hobbies and joys are knitting, golf, Skip-Bo, Mexican Train dominoes, bingo, the music of Ray Price, fried fish and onion rings, biscuits and gravy, football games (especially the Green Bay Packers), the Sound of Music movie, traveling, and being with family. She taught art for many years and created many paintings that are now in the possession of family members.
Beverly is preceded in death by her son Donald, her brother Everett Kittridge and her husband Robert. She is survived by Steve and Grace Westbrook, Jan and Tony Catalano, Brad and Reni Westbrook, Sue and Rich Gray. Granny and great-granny greatly loved the times spent with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her grandchildren and their spouses are Aaron and Katie Westbrook, David Westbrook, Paul and Megan Westmore, Elizabeth and Garrett Vance, Michael and Sara Beth Catalano, Samantha and Ian Anderson, Rachel and Cruz Garcia, Claire and David Ceja, Jason and Brittany Payne, Dusty and Abby Payne, Alex and Frazer Gray. Great grandchildren are Bennett and Everett Westbrook, James Vance, Nolan Westmore, Naomi and Julia Catalano, Oliver and Autumn Anderson, Izzy Ceja, Cooper, Campbell, and Beau Payne, Penny and Cody Payne.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, December 22, 2025, at Hope Lutheran Church, 5714 Callaghan Road, San Antonio, Texas. Pastor Johnene Cunningham will officiate. Arrangements are with Sunset Hills Northwest Funeral Home.
The family of Beverly Westbrook wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Madeline Rodriguez, Tracie Carillo, Dave and Janice Owens, and Hope Lutheran Church for their loving friendship and support of Bev.
