

Dr. William H. (Bill) Cade, passed away December 29, 2025 in San Antonio, TX age 79, leaving a legacy as a husband, father, grandfather, scholar/academic leader. He is survived by his spouse Elsa Salazar Cade, their daughter Tamez, Frank and granddaughter Madeline. Alamo Heights class 64, PhD Zoology, president of University of Lethbridge (2000-2010). He was committed to research and teaching, discovered Ormia ochracea, cricket behavior, and supervising students. Three degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, shaped a distinguished career. An animal behaviorist and American Canadian, Bill was known for his work in behavioral evolution and work with Dan Otte. He moved to Canada 1977, as a Professor of Biology, Dean of Science and vice president at Brock University. As president of the University of Lethbridge (Alberta), Bill guided the institution, strengthening its academic reputation in Alberta. In San Antonio, Bill helped in accrediting the CF clinic at University Hospital. Bill will be missed by his family and remembered for his integrity, humility, humor and generosity.
