Billy Elroy Dannheim, age 80, passed away January 8, 2021 from complications from a heart attack in San Antonio, TX. He was born in San Angelo, TX on December 15, 1940. He was a loving father, brother and friend who will dearly be missed.
Billy was born to his father Elroy Dannheim and his mother Billie Dannheim in San Angelo, TX. Billy spent his childhood in Mason County, TX and spoke fondly of his upbringing. He graduated from Mason High School in 1959. He enjoyed little league baseball, playing football (#22), helping out on the stock farm, and made good grades in school. He loved his friends and enjoyed going to class reunions when he was able.
After high school, Billy went to college and received a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Texas Tech. He then joined the United States Air Force. He was a navigator / electronics warfare officer during the Vietnam War and earned the rank of Captain. While he was stationed in Roswell NM, he met Katherine Allen. They married on February 25, 1967 and had two children, David and Patrick.
After the Air Force, Billy obtained a master’s degree in Business Administration. He worked at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company in Tyler and then Clark Paper Company in San Antonio. He spent most of his years in the aviation industry working for Swearingen Aircraft in San Antonio.
Billy Dannheim was preceded in death by his father, Elroy Dannheim, his mother, Billie Dannheim and his youngest son, Patrick Dannheim.
He is survived by his son, David Dannheim of San Antonio; his brother, Wayne Dannheim and wife Deborah of Giddings; his niece, Kate Pamplin and nephew, Jonathan Dannheim of Round Rock as well as two great nieces, Abigail and Isabel Pamplin.
The visitation will be 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM, Monday, January 25, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home (1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78218) with a 30-minute graveside service to follow at 1:15 PM at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery (Shelter #2) with Air Force Honors. The visitation and graveside service will be streamed live on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/kathie.dannheim.
