Bonnie Hamby Valentine, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on July 21, 1932, in Willow Springs, Missouri, to James and Blanche Hamby.
On August 12, 1948, Bonnie married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Valentine, in Buras, Louisiana. Together they shared a beautiful life built on faith, family, and love. In retirement, Bonnie and Bob made their home in Hallettsville, where they cherished their community and faithfully attended Saint James Episcopal Church.
Bonnie attended the Zelda Allen School of Nursing and devoted 12 years to caring for others at Stevens Convalescent and Rehab Center. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her grandchildren and loving her family. She always made their time together special—baking, crafting, and sharing stories. One of her most cherished life lessons was that home is where you are, and she carried that spirit with her always. Bonnie lived her life content and grateful for each moment, and she has now been called home to the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Valentine; daughter, Linda Harvey; father, James Hamby; mother, Blanche Hamby; brother, Donald Hamby; and sister, Margaret Cognevich. Bonnie is survived by her sons, Robert Valentine and wife Jamie of Houston, and James Valentine and wife Fah of Kyle. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Byron Bergeron; John Valentine and wife Danielle; Katie Whittiker and husband Cody; Bryan Valentine and wife Lindsey; Adam Valentine, and Fang Weerapan. Her great-grandchildren include Dru Bergeron, Max Bergeron, Macie Whittiker, Kaylee Whittiker, Ellie Valentine, Vivian Valentine, John Valentine Jr., Samantha Valentine, and Veda Valentine.
She is further survived by her loving sisters: Barbara Dumas, Shirley Bellue, and Jeanne Bowers. The bond they shared was deep and enduring—more than sisters, they were lifelong friends whose laughter, faith, and steadfast love sustained one another through every season of life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church of Hallettsville or Christ Episcopal Church of San Antonio. Interment will take place at Cathedral Park Columbarium in San Antonio, Texas.
Bonnie will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy of warmth and grace will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
