

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, physician, friend and respected colleague, Boyce Elliott, III, M.D. passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in San Antonio, TX. He was born April 25, 1940, in Welch, WV and grew up in Aransas Pass, TX. He was a dedicated altar boy and Boy Scout leader. He graduated from Aransas Pass High School in 1958 where he was known by the nickname "Red Elliott. He was an accomplished athlete and musician. Dr. Elliott was a member of the Aransas Pass High School Marching Band, Dance Band, golf team and competed as a Golden Glove boxer. While on the golf team, he achieved every golfer's dream by making a hole-in-one at Live Oak Country Club in Aransas Pass, a memorable accomplishment that reflected his lifelong love of the game.
Dr. Elliott graduated from St. Thomas University and was a member of The Aquinas Honor Society before earning his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston. He completed his residency training at Robert B. Green Hospital in San Antonio. Following his medical training, Dr. Elliott served in the United States Air Force for two years as a Captain and Flight Surgeon, stationed in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Dr. Elliott returned to San Antonio where he joined MHMR (Mental Health Mental Retardation Center) where he helped pioneer one of the organization's early programs dedicated to the treatment and recovery of individuals struggling with drug addiction. He opened the first Methadone Clinic in San Antonio. He later served at Villa Rosa Hospital as Clinical Director of the Chemical Dependency Program. He then served at Colonial Hills Hospital before opening his private psychiatric practice in San Antonio in the early 1980's.
Dr. Elliott also served as Medical Director at Methodist Specialty & Transplant Hospital over Addiction and Adult Psychiatry. Dr. Elliott was invited by the FDA in Washington D.C. to serve on the panel for Vivitrol as treatment for opioid addiction. Upon closing his practice in 2013, he served as Contract Staff Psychiatrist for Homeland Security until his retirement in 2024.
Dr. Elliott was Board Certified in Psychiatry, Neurology and Addiction Medicine. He was a member of The American Medical Association; The American Medical Society; The American Society of Addiction Medicine; The American Medical Society on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependencies; Southern Medical Association and Bexar County Medical Association. He was voted one of America's Top Doctor's as chosen by peers 2001.
Dr. Elliott was preceded in death by his parents Boyce Elliott, II, M.D. and Margaret Popeney Elliott. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Carole Elliott; his children Mary Elliott; Jennifer Elliott Woeste (Steven);Melanie Elliott Rodriguez (Robert); Christopher Elliott (Lauren); stepson John Bradley; sister Martha Paxton; brother Tim Elliott; grandchildren Kaitlyn, Abigail, Scott, Ethan; Alexander and great-granddaughter Ellie Mae.
A viewing and rosary will be held at Porter Loring Mortuary West on July 15, from 6:30-7:30 p.m
A funeral mass will take place at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on July 16, at 11:00 am.
There will be a funeral procession from Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on July 16, at 1:00 p.m.
A reception will take place at Dr. Elliott's home on July 16, from 2:00-5:00 p.m.
