

Bradley was born on May 27, 1949, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, to James and Laura Smith. He graduated from Lawrenceville High School in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in October 1967. During his distinguished military career, he attained the rank of Master Sergeant (E-7) and faithfully served his country for 21 years and 5 months before retiring in March 1989. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he worked as a mail clerk at Kelly Air Force Base and had a brief stint at USAA.
Bradley was a devoted family man who took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his family, sharing stories, and creating lasting memories. He had a deep appreciation for simple pleasures, whether it was watching his favorite programs or gathering with loved ones. His strong sense of duty, discipline, and integrity carried over from his military service into every aspect of his life. Bradley also held a quiet but steadfast faith, which guided him throughout his life and provided him strength and comfort.
Bradley was preceded in death by his second wife, Sara LaVada Smith (Shelton), whom he married on April 11, 1980, in Harrison County, Mississippi. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, James and Laura Smith; three sisters, Ruby R. Smith, Mildred B. Smith, and Virginia Smith; and two brothers, John A. Smith and Robert J. Smith.
Bradley is survived by his first wife, Bonnie Wissmiller, whom he married on October 12, 1968. He is also survived by his children: Richard (Carrie) Smith of Paragould, Arkansas; Michael Smith of Scott City, Missouri; Bradley James Smith of San Antonio, Texas; Jennifer (Patrick) O’Keefe of San Antonio, Texas; and Tammy (Carl) Clover of Chaffee, Missouri.
He is further survived by his grandchildren: Sammy Ruiz, Mason Smith-O’Keefe, Logan Smith-O’Keefe, Trevor Smith, Ashley Kight, Katie Clover, Casey Clover, and Carson Clover; and his great-grandchildren: Braelyn Kight, Cayden Warren, Everett Coleman, and Amelia Coleman.
Burial services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas, on April 17 at 2:45 p.m.
