

She was born in Pecos, Texas to Eligio H. and Fernanda S. Calderon.
After graduation from the Pecos Public Schools, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas Womens' University and later earned a Masters degree from Our Lady of the Lake University.
She resided in San Antonio most of her life where she taught school at Truman Middle School and was a counselor at Edgewood and Lanier High Schools. Her students loved her for her kind, loving, and enthusiastic demeanor; she was a true professional and outstanding educator. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Bennett, her daughters Katherine Krause (David), Elizabeth Dallas Rowden (Keith), grandchildren Katherine, Sarah and Andrew Rowden of Houston, stepdaughters Carol Lillegard (Rick), Susan Sciaretta (Michael) and Janice Johnson and stepsons Michael (Susan), and Terry Bennett of New York, sister Eliza Moralez of Austin, brother Sal Calderon, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her daughter Melissa Trevino, her sisters Connie Brand and Rachel Parker and brother Arnie Calderon.
During her long teaching career, Brenda was a member of numerous educational and counseling organizations including the local Chapters of Texas State Teachers Association and Texas Professional Counselors where she held many elective offices which gave her membership eligibility to the Presidents Council.
She was a member of Theta Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, San Antonio Retired Teachers Association, Amistad Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Red Hat Society, the Silver Foxes and the Conservation Society.
She loved to sing and often entertained family, friends, and organizations with her melodious voice.
Visitation will be held Sunday, June 17th from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Porter Loring, 1101 McCullough with rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM.
