SMSgt (ret) Brian Paul DeGroat, went to be with the Lord on October 13, 2011. He was born on July 17, 1961 in Middletown, New York. Brian was one of seven children born to Ralph and Juanita DeGroat. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 28 years of honored service to his country.
Brian was preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by his loving devoted wife of 29 years, Karen DeGroat; six siblings, Adriane Dillard, Karen Freeman, Calvin DeGroat, Joyce Holman, Bruce DeGroat and Jonah DeGroat and a host of relatives and friends.
Brian graduated from Middletown High School in 1979; he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1980. His first duty station was Travis Air Force Base, California; there he met and married Karen Draper in 1982. Together a perfect union was formed where Brian and Karen embarked upon the journey of life.
Higher education was an important factor as he accomplished a BS in Human Resource Management and a Master’s in Human Resource Development while serving in the military.
Brian’s career took him all over the world, where he met those who would become a part of his life. Brian did not depart from us empty-handed. Brian always considered first his family, friends and neighbors. No matter who they were, Brian was always there – every time!
As we remember Brian, a husband, our brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend and loved one; we think of the good times we shared with him, and memories that will last in our hearts forever.
