

Brian Guy Kaestner, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on April 5, 1955, in Baltimore, Maryland to Mary Lou White and Albert C. Kaestner Junior. Brian attended Friends School in Baltimore and went on to Dickinson College, later receiving his master's degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He joined the faculty at San Mary's Hall in 1981. Brian taught AP Environmental Science, AP Human Geography, and AP Biology; as well as serving as department chair for a while. His work with students and teachers in environmental science was also nationally recognized. Brian also coached both Middle and Upper School Women’s Soccer and was recognized as Texas Coach of the Year four times. He led the way on campus sustainability and beautification efforts, creating opportunities for faculty and students to invest in the natural beauty and history of the Starcrest campus. His investment in Saint Mary’s Hall students, faculty, history, and physical spaces is part of a tremendous legacy. He also enjoyed gardening, hiking, archeology, geology, and watching soccer, as well as good food, good friends and family. Brian is survived by his wife, Jane Anne Burton; son, Branden Kaestner; brother; Dale Kaestner; and father, Albert. A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 2:00PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 North Loop 1604 East. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the World Wildlife Fund or the Animal Defense League. Another service will be held in Baltimore, MD in the coming months.
