

CMSgt Byron Thomas Parcenue, USAF (Ret), age 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 1, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. Tom was born on June 22, 1943, in Ashland, Ohio, to June Gwendolyn McFadden and Paul Elwood Parcenue.
Tom’s strong moral compass and dedication to integrity and doing the right thing permeated all aspects of his life and family. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was preceded in death by his parents. Tom is survived by his wife, Janet Ann Parcenue; sister, Alleyne Marie VanDerHeyden; brother, Paul Vance Parcenue; his children, Byron Thomas Parcenue and Michelle Christine Fortenberry; grandchildren, Shalane Christine Conrads, Steven Thomas Parcenue, James Thomas Fortenberry, Joel Alan Fortenberry, Madison Lorre’ Fortenberry; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mr. “BT” Parcenue had a long and highly distinguished career in the United States Air Force, both on active duty and as an Air Force Civilian, spanning a combined 50 years’ service in the Department of Defense from September 1962 to June 2013. BT, as he was affectionately known by the military community, was a mentor to many and respected by all who came into his sphere of influence. In 2013, a United States Air Force Major Command annual award was established in his name; The Byron “BT” Parcenue Airfield Operations Professional of the Year memorializes his professionalism, values, and teachings. BT rose through the ranks from an Air Traffic Control Specialist to become The First Command’s senior leader and advisor on Air Traffic Control and Airfield Management Operations.
During his retirement years, BT enjoyed more golfing, riding his Harley and his horses. He also enjoyed cooking, fine dining, good jazz and spending time with good friends and family.
