

He was born February 2, 1943, in San Isidro, Texas to parents, Mary and Ignacio Alvarez. He is survived by his children, Cande Anthony Alvarez and Elizabeth Alvarez; two granddaughters, Ava Maria Rodriguez and Isabella Nicole Alvarez; sister, Dora Duran; brothers, Ignacio Alvarez and Juan Alvarez; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Candelario proudly served his country in the US Army from 1964-1966, during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon leaving the Army, he pursued his career as a floral designer and studied in L.A. for several years. He eventually started his own business, owning two locations. With his dedicated and loving wife, Mary Alvarez, working by his side, their business flourished for over 25 years.
A Visitation for Candelario Alvarez will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary, located at 1101 McCullough Avenue in San Antonio, Texas. A Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the same location.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 4603 St. John's Way, San Antonio.
The committal service with full military honors will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas.
