

Carl, a longtime resident of Windcrest, grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and spent 34 years in the Air Force. Carl was an Eagle Scout and a Veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. His many awards and decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross with two Oakleaf Clusters; the Air Medal with four Oakleaf Clusters, and many other campaign medals and ribbons, including early Cold War Over Flights.
A lifelong golfer, he and his wife, Glenda, were members of the Windcrest Golf Club. Carl was also an active member of the Order of Daedalians, Windcrest United Methodist Church and numerous Masonic organizations including the Alzafar Shrine. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Maryland and during his military career he worked with some of America's aviation pioneers. Carl was President of USAFE Retiree Council of Europe from 1984 to 1986.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Glenda; a son, Robert Carl and wife, Sheila Holt of Seabrook, MD; daughter, Jeanne and husband, Ronco Liem of Hollister, CA; and daughter, Janet and husband, Guy Kimball of North Ferrisburg, VT. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; Kristjun Holt; Jeremy, Joshua and Marieke Liem; Ryan, Shawn, Corey and Justin Kimball. Also surviving Carl are his sister, Nancy and husband, Wayne Alderson of Pittsburgh, PA; niece, Nancy Jean and husband, Pat McDonnell and great nephew, Patrick Wayne McDonnell also of Pittsburgh.
The family will receive friends Sunday, August 20, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring.
