Following his retirement from the Navy, Carl continued serving his country through a career in civil service.

Carl was a gifted storyteller whose memories of mountain life, hard work, and adventure brought joy to family and friends. He dedicated his life to the importance of family. A loving husband, father, grandfather, naval officer, public servant, storyteller, and friend, his gentle spirit and steady presence will be deeply missed.
