Carl L. Shaw Jr. was born on May 23, 1973, in Junction City, Kansas, and was raised in Independence, Kansas. His life was one of service, growth, and family, and he leaves behind memories that will continue to live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Carl followed in his father's footsteps by joining the United States Army, where he proudly served for 23 years. Throughout his military career, he completed two tours in Iraq and participated in the Green to Gold program at Kansas State University. He was known as an excellent soldier and an exemplary officer. When he retired from the Army, Carl had attained the rank of Major, concluding a distinguished career dedicated to serving his country.
After retiring from the Army, Carl continued his education, returning to school to earn his master's degree in social work. His commitment to learning and serving others continued beyond his military career.
Carl was raised in the church and had a love for music, especially playing the drums. Music was a part of his life from an early age, and it remained one of the things that connected him to his roots.
Like everyone, Carl had his own personality, quirks, and ways of seeing the world. He wasn't always a fan of the outdoors, particularly the bugs that came with it. Yet life had a way of changing his perspective, and he eventually enjoyed floating on the river with his daughter Morgan. Those moments became special memories to cherish.
Above all, Carl will be remembered for the things that made him uniquely himself. His children will especially miss his very distinctive laugh—a sound that was unmistakably Carl. It was part of who he was, and those who loved him will carry the memory of that laugh with them long after his passing.
Carl is survived by his four children: Tristan Carlray Shaw, Morgan Annemarie Shaw, Quintan Louis Shaw, and Kaylan Elizabeth Shaw; his sister, Angela Shaw; his brothers, Paul Williams, Michael Williams, and Alejandro Morales; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind extended family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives he touched.
He is also survived by his beloved dog, Luna, who was part of his life and companionship.
Carl's life cannot be measured by the years he lived alone, but by the service he gave, the experiences he shared, the relationships he built, and the memories he leaves behind. His journey took him from his Kansas roots to a life of military service, continued education, and family. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void for those who loved him, his legacy will live on through his children, his family, and everyone who carries a memory of him in their hearts.
He will be remembered for his service, his individuality, his laughter, and the moments that made him who he was.
He will be remembered, he will be missed, and he will never be forgotten.
