

Mr. Young was born in Hamlin, TX in 1936 the second child of Carl and Lurleen Young. Mr. Young was Valedictorian of his High School class. He received a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Education from Hardin-Simmons University in 1958 and later a Master's degree in Mathematics from Louisiana State University.
Mr. Young took a teaching job at Northside Junior High in Corpus Christi in 1958. He was drafted into the Army; and after serving time in Europe, he returned to Corpus Christi in 1961 where he began teaching Math at Carroll High School.
Mr. Young taught at Carroll High for 41 years, retiring in 2002. During his tenure, Mr. Young received numerous teaching awards including Teacher of the Year in 2000. He also served as the announcer for high school events at Buccaneer Stadium and Cabaniss Field for over 20 years.
Mr. Young was an avid photographer and collector of antique bottles, microscopes, and cameras; and published several articles on these subjects. He donated his impressive collection of seashells to the Corpus Christi Museum which led Mayor Luther Jones to declare August 7, 1979 "Carl T. Young Day".
He was active in the Bonsai Club and took great pride in his bonsai, bromeliad, and wildflower collections. Mr. Young was also an accomplished woodworker and fisherman. Through his teaching, Mr. Young helped shape the futures of innumerable young people. His wit, generosity, intellectual prowess, and selflessness will be sorely missed by both family and friends.
Survivors include his sister Juanice Frank of Fredericksburg, TX; niece, Carla Speice of Baton Rouge, LA; foster son, Dr. Lloyd Stegemann of San Antonio; nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, Austin, Travis, Justin, Cassie, Shelby, Sierra, Abigail, and Emma.
