He was born in Malakoff, Texas and was raised in Laredo, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Geronimo and Julia Najera Guzman; and brothers, Jeronimo and Ramon Guzman and sister-in-law, Irma Guzman.
He is survived by his wife, Imelda Guzman; his children, son, Carlos J. Guzman; grandsons, Marcus Karlos and Carlos Joaquin Guzman; daughter, Imelda Sylvia Ponce and son-in-law, Ceasar Ponce, granddaughters, Yvonne and Nadia Ponce; daughter, Lily A. Lucio and son-in-law, Frank Lucio, granddaughter, Cassandra Cassey Lucio; brothers, Arturo Guzman and sister-in-law, Jinia Guzman, from Dallas, TX, Rodolfo Guzman and sister-in-law, Stella Guzman from Cleveland, OH; sister, Julieta Gomez and brother-in-law, Juan Jose Gomez, from Laredo, TX; sister-in-law, Elida Guzman from Laredo, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
