Carlos Joel Velasquez born on November 26, 1954 in Port Lavaca, TX was called to be with the Lord on April 12, 2014 at the age of 59. Carlos served 27 years with the US Marine Corps which included two tours in Okinawa, serving with the military police, and receiving a master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies. He continued to represent his country 4 years after his retirement in contract work in Africa, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

He is preceded in death by his only son Juan Carlos Velasquez and is survived by his wife Julia Maritza Velasquez; daughters, Maria I. Velasquez and Gabriella E. Velasquez; grandson, Carlos Javier Martinez; mother Lenora Rendon Mallison; and sisters, Olga D. Velasquez, Gloria A. Velasquez, and Lelia E. Velasquez. Additional surviving family are nephews, Vicente L. Velasquez, Eric A. Velasquez, Miguel F. Velasquez, Alexander L. McMullin, Leo Gutierrez, and niece Angelita L. Gutierrez. Visitation will be held Tuesday April 22, 2014 from 5:00pm- 9:00pm with a Rosary Service to be conducted at 7:00pm at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home and a Funeral Service will be held Wednesday April 23, 2014 at 10:00am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. His final resting place will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX. Arrangements under the direction of SUNSET NORTHWEST FUNERAL HOME, San Antonio, TX.

He has a beautiful family & his legacy reflects the the true spirit of his perfection, commitment & love that continues to flourish through them.
