Carmen U. Mireles entered into eternal rest on December 23, 2020. She will be remembered for the great love she had for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was very proud of each and every one of them.
Carmen was born on December 1, 1929, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and was raised in the city of Monterrey. While living in Monterrey, she met and married the love of her life, Jesus Mireles, and later settled in San Antonio, Texas. Carmen was a devoted Catholic and was a member of Las Guadalupanas at Holy Rosary Parish. She worked in Housekeeping at the Law Library of St. Mary’s University for many years. She took pride in the work she performed at the university and developed a rapport with many of the students and staff. She retired from St. Mary’s University, but Carmen could not stay idle. So, after retirement, she worked in housekeeping part time at Intech Southwest Services. In her spare time, she assembled the company’s annual Fiesta medals. She very much enjoyed the friendship of the employees of the company. If not working, she was also passionate about her back patio plants, front yard rosebushes and evening telenovelas.
Carmen is preceded in death by her husband, Jesus Mireles. She is survived by her sister, Lupe; brother Gilberto; her children: Jesus Alfredo (Janie), Maria Elena (Jesse), Maria Dolores (Chris), Teresa (Robert), Gerardo (Diana), David (Brenda) Jorge (Jerry), Joaquin, Carmen Delia (Kevin), Lupe (Patti), Beatrice (Charre); and her beloved 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Porter Loring Chapel.
