Carol Ann Allen

Carol was born in Chicago, IL on August 29, 1935, to Violet (Holmquist) and Carl Hamm. She graduated from Carl Schurz High School in 1953 and was a registered nurse receiving her degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago, School of Nursing. She met the love of her life, James (Jim) Allen, at the hospital where she worked. They were married in Chicago in 1957 and spent 42 happy years together as the proud parents of four children. The family moved to San Antonio in 1979 when Jim, a financial executive, joined Valero. Carol cherished her family and her faith and was very involved in her childrens activities while they were growing up.

She worked as a registered nurse in a variety of healthcare settings in San Antonio until her retirement. Throughout her life she pursed her artistic interests, mastering every craft imaginable. She was a gourmet cook, an accomplished seamstress and quilter, and a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and husband, James Warren Allen. She is survived by her children; Tamura Allen, Douglas (Janne) Allen, Thomas Allen, DDS and John (Victoria) Allen, and grandchildren; Theodore Allen, Abagail Allen, and Daniel Allen.

The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to Patricia Hernandez for the loving care she provided to our mother over the last four years.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 223 East Summit Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78212 on Friday, July 22, 2022, at 11:30 am with internment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
