Carol Jean Muller was born to Beatrice Aten Muller and William Muller on 4-10-1926 in Englewood, New Jersey. Carol grew up in Guttenberg, a small German-Swiss town overlooking the Hudson River and New York City. Carol met her husband, William Miller, on a blind date on 7-1-1944 while Bill was home on leave from the Navy. Carol and Bill married on 12-1-1946 and lived in Belleville, NJ, where they had two children: Linda Carol and Christopher William. Carol and Bill became active members of Wesley Methodist Church: Sunday School teachers, children’s choir Mom, Women’s Society (Circle 5 was remembered vividly!), Sunday School superintendent, and youth group advisors where they loved (and were loved by) many young people who remember them fondly to this day.
Carol worked in banking in New York City after graduating from high school, and then in human resources in several manufacturing companies. Carol was also in charge of awards and retirement banquet planning, which she greatly enjoyed. She loved a party!
In 1986, Carol and Bill retired to Cape May, NJ, becoming active members of their new church, Cape May Methodist, as well as enjoying living ‘down the shore’. They made many new friends (but enjoyed frequent visits from old friends) and became part of a group that the members lovingly called themselves “The Over the Hill Gang”.
Carol had many interests: photography, stained glass, reading, genealogy, beachcombing, many dogs and cats, hosting dinners and parties, frequent visits to children and grandchildren, and activities at church. (Exercise of any kind was not an interest!) She had a deep and abiding love for her family as well as friends who became her extended family.
Carol is remembered with love by her daughter, Linda Gibson and husband, Bob; son, Chris Miller; granddaughters, Jessica Hurst and husband, Shawn; Sara Heckman and husband, Coleman; Lauren Papp and husband, Rory; two cherished great-granddaughters, Hannah and Madeline Heckman; as well as many loving friends.
Carol was a strong, intelligent, fun-loving woman of faith, and a wonderful wife, Mom, Grammy, and GG. Hers was a life well-lived! She will be missed, but we take comfort in knowing she and Bill are together, and quite possibly planning some heavenly parties!
She will be laid to rest with her husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
