

Carol McCarthy Rider, age 50, passed away December 24, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas after a lengthy battle with Type 1 Diabetes. She was born on December 16, 1966 in Danvers, Massachusetts to Edward and Esther Fletcher McCarthy.
She was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army and proudly served in the Gulf War. During her tour, she was awarded two Army Commendation Medals and various other awards. After leaving the service, Carol utilized the GI BILL to earn a Bachelor of Science degree, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Fayetteville State University, North Carolina. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher in Fayetteville, NC and Clayton County, GA who creatively taught her students using arts and crafts. She was an accomplished artist who enjoyed painting, crafting, sewing, and drawing. Most of all, Carol loved the ocean and long walks on the beach.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Mikala Baza-Bordain and her husband Randall Bordain; her parents, Edward and Esther McCarthy; sisters, Maureen McCarthy and her husband Paul Andrews, Janet McCarthy, and Ann Marie McCarthy Healy and her husband Tom Healy; nephew, Jack Healy; niece, Kate Healy; aunts, Ann Fletcher Wood and Joan McCarthy Morrison and numerous cousins.
