Mrs. Carol Taylor died peacefully in the home of her daughter, Susan Danielson, of San Antonio, June 19, 2022, at the age of 92. She was born Carol Ione Carlson in Janesville, WI, to Rudolph and Edna (Nelson) Carlson, July 30, 1929. She is preceded in death by her parents, two older sisters, Ruby Baldock and Evelyn Garrett and a younger brother, Albert Carlson. She is survived by younger brother, Melvin Carlson of Lancaster, WI.
Carol was married to Robert Charles Taylor for fifty nine years until the time of his death in 2006. He was an infantryman from Janesville who fought in WW II and the Korean conflict. They were married April 10, 1948, in Los Angeles, CA. Robert was ordained as a Lutheran minister in 1960, and Carol joined his ministries in Big Springs/Harmony, MN, Granger, IA, Mission, TX, Lubbock, TX, El Campo, TX, and for fourteen years at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in San Antonio.
Carol had eight children with Robert: oldest son, Bob of McAllen, Tim of San Antonio, Scott of Fayetteville, AR, Jim of Austin, Susan Danielson of San Antonio, Patty Merrick of Dallas, Andy of Kerrville, and Tony of Melissa, TX. Carol loved being a mom, and she was especially happy to have over a dozen grandchildren and more than a half dozen great grandchildren with whom to share her life and love.
Carol had a great passion for music. She proudly wore her T-shirt proclaiming "Saw All the Big Bands!" which she had indeed seen and danced to during her teens. She was a talented violinist and played for many years with the San Antonio Community Orchestra. That she played "second fiddle" was in keeping with her purposeful lifes intent to create harmony.
During her forty five years in San Antonio, Carol became an ardent Spurs fan-for years she could give updates on how her team was doing: who was shooting well, who was injured and for how long theyd be out, what new guys were going to make an impact. Carol also loved to read and travel. She read multiple books every week, and whenever she had the opportunity, she relished returning to the beaches and fragrant flowers of southern California where she had begun her marriage and started her family.
The greatest meaning in Carols life was her spiritual journey. She grew up a humble farm girl who attended church religiously with her devout Scandinavian family, and she continued a lifetime habit of daily devotion and the conscientious practice of Christ-like behavior. Carol could have taken easier roads during her life, but she chose to sacrifice her own self-interest for the wellbeing of her family and those around her. She practiced kindness as a way to make the world a more joyful and compassionate place. Generations of young children grew to know about Jesus and loved coming to Sunday school because of Carol. She loved her sixty years of teaching as much as her students loved spending their Sunday mornings with her.
Mrs. Taylor will be interred together with her husband at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday July 14th, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 E San Antonio, TX 78232. The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday July 15th, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Temple (CT Church,) 14335 OConnor Rd. San Antonio, TX 78247. A reception will follow the service with the burial to be held at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
Remembrances can be best made by honoring the principles of compassion and caring to which Carol dedicated her life.
