Mrs. Carole Ann O'Brien

Carole Ann O'Brien, known lovingly as Carole, passed away on July 18, 2026, in Spring, Texas, at the age of 85 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s dementia. She was born on November 29, 1940, in Maryland, and lived a life marked by faith, devotion, compassion, and steadfast love for her family and all those she served. A Christian woman of deep and abiding faith, Carole faced each season of life with grace, strength, and an optimistic spirit that touched everyone who knew her.

Carole was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael J. O'Brien, in 1970, as well as by her mother, Myrtle Riley, father, John P. Riley Jr., and brother, John P. Riley III. She is survived by her daughters and their families, including Kelly Ann Aguilar and husband, Ernesto Aguilar, and Wendy O'Brien, along with her cherished grandchildren, Morgan, Paige, and Mitchell Hadley. Her family was the great joy of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them, whether gathered around the table, sharing stories, or simply enjoying one another’s company.

A graduate of MacArthur High School, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Incarnate Word College. She maintained her R.N. license throughout her career, reflecting both her commitment to excellence and her enduring dedication to the nursing profession. Her education laid the foundation for a career that would become a true calling, one in which she served others with skill, intelligence, and a compassionate heart.

Carole worked for many years as an R.N. at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio, where she cared for patients in the ER, ICU, and on every other floor she had the privilege to serve. Her daughters fondly remembered the many stories she shared from her years in nursing, stories that reflected both the seriousness of her work and the humor and humanity with which she approached it. She never backed down from an opportunity to learn, and she never hesitated to stand her ground with a doctor when she believed a patient might be at risk. Her courage, professionalism, and deep sense of responsibility made her a trusted nurse and a source of comfort to countless patients and families.

In time, Carole worked self-employed and took on many cases with the Visiting Nurses Association, where she developed a special interest in rehabilitation work. She was especially moved by the needs of traumatic brain injury patients who had lost their livelihoods and their independence. With patience, determination, and compassion, she helped patients recover and regain the ability to speak and function on their own again. This meaningful work led her to graduate study in the field and later to her career with USAA on their Medical Management Team. Carole retired from USAA in 2000 and fully enjoyed every moment of her retirement, embracing the gift of time with family, faith, and the simple pleasures she loved.

Outside of her professional life, Carole found joy in cooking, Bible studies, fellowship with church members, walking - especially at the beach, playing with her grandchildren, travel, dancing, and singing. She was always ready to help those in need, and her generous spirit was evident in the way she cared for others throughout her life. She was loving, faith-filled, and optimistic, and these qualities shone brightly in her words, her actions, and her steady presence. Her life was a beautiful witness to the goodness that can be found in a woman who trusts in God and serves others with an open heart.

Carole’s legacy is one of devotion, perseverance, and kindness. She will be remembered for her strong faith, her warm smile, her wisdom, and her unwavering love for her family. Though she will be deeply missed, those who knew and loved her take comfort in the promise of eternal life and in the knowledge that her earthly journey has ended in the peace of the Lord. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her daughters, grandchildren, extended family, friends, and all whose lives were made better by her presence.
