Carole Ernest Thompson died on January 5 at the age of 75. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Bruce H. Thompson, her brother Steven Ernest, and her sons Scott and Mark. There will be a memorial service on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church.
Carole was active in the local art community, and was a docent at the McNay Art Museum for 36 years. She served as chair of the docent program in 1989, and was instrumental in organizing funding for a program that provided transportation for school children to visit the museum.
Carole loved gardening, skiing in Colorado, and playing tennis at the Club at Sonterra. She and Bruce took many trips abroad, and she particularly enjoyed Greece and the Czech Republic.
Known to her six grandchildren as "Gram," Carole was a generous, kind, and doting grandmother. The kids' trips to Disney World with their grandparents were a highlight of their elementary school years. Carole's friends remember her with great fondness as a central part of their lives. She and Bruce met at North Druid Hills High School in Atlanta and were married for 53 years.
