An inspirational quote from her beginnings in college by C.T. Studd: “Only one life ‘twill soon be passed, only what’s done for Christ will last. Show me how to make my moment count for Thee.”
From a young age, she found a joy in meeting and sincerely knowing people. Carolyn shared her joy of worship through music. From high school, she participated in many choirs, traveling show ensembles and various chorus groups and praise teams throughout her life. In later years, she directed adult choirs, children’s choirs, and musicals.
As a teenager, she wrote in the back of her Bible words that she lived by: “Share worldly goods - care for fellow believers, evangelize and share the Good News – lead them to the truth”. 1 Corinthians 9:14 “…live the gospel”.
Carolyn attended Warner Southern College where she met her husband, Eugene Benedict. They began their journey April 7, 1971. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and served the Lord through teaching for 30 years in public school and 15 years in private and home school education. She also volunteered her time and talents with teaching recovery groups and Bible studies. Carolyn specialized in teaching 4th and 5th grade students American History, including current events. One of her passions was to make history fun and incorporate the relevance today. Some unique projects with her students were oral interviews for first-hand history, market days, and she started the Great American Wax Museums in San Antonio. Carolyn earned recognition as Teacher of the Year several times.
She was preceded in death by her father. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Eugene Benedict; daughters, Shelley Benedict, and Kara Nava and husband David; grandchildren, Kade Hawthorne, Cody Hawthorne, Connor Hawthorne, Kyle Nava, Taylor Nava, Ethan Hawthorne, and Alexis Hawthorne; her mother; siblings; Linda Paris, Peggy Kunsman, Grace Prichard, Janet Tilford, Winnie Howard, Marty Kunsman, and Sandy Ciolino.
