Carolyn Ruth Hammond Brewer passed away peacefully on October 2nd at the age of 80. She was born June 2, 1929 to the late Hearl and Ruby Hammond in Fayetteville, Arkansas where she spent her early years, attending high school and the University of Arkansas.
In 1948 Carolyn married the late Joseph Edgar Brewer, and as an Air Force spouse she and her two daughters traveled the world with him. The family moved to San Antonio in 1971 after "Joe's" retirement.
As a young girl, her mother said she "never knew a stranger". She truly loved everyone and when she gave you a smile, you knew you were loved. During her life she taught school, sold real estate, loved to paint pictures, cook new recipes, and entertain her friends. She was a very talented pianist and organist and during the last 10 years of her life, she volunteered at Morningside Manor to share her gift of love and music with the residents living there. She also played the piano for fellow residents at Brighton Gardens where she lived during the last year. They loved hearing her play!
She was also an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, serving in the Daughters of the King and as a volunteer at the Green Door Thrift Shop for many years.
Her family and friends were the most precious treasures in her life. Her granddaughter, Lauren was the apple of her eye and "Mimi" would call her often to remind her how much she loved her. We will miss her beautiful smile, her humor, and the unconditional love and support she gave to all of us.
Carolyn is survived by her two daughters, Marcia Sims and Betsy Solsbery and husband, Steven; granddaughter, Lauren Solsbery; sister, Virginia Hammond Jolly and husband, Robert; brother-in-law, John Brewer and wife Nancy and numerous nieces and nephews.
We want to thank Dr. Paul Smith, the wonderful staff at Brighton Gardens and Alamo Hospice for loving her and caring for her. We also want to thank Mr. Jimmy Walker for the love and care he showed her during her last year.
You all have been a tremendous blessing to her and to us. We will be forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Therapy & Research Center 7979 Wurzbach Rd Suite # 600, San Antonio, TX 78229 or a charity of your choice.
