
Carolyn Steede Browning, 78 of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, died Friday December 30, 2011 at her home. Her funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at The Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff, with Pastor Charles H. Richardson officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Memorials may be directed to the Scottsbluff Public Schools Foundation or to the American Heart Association. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the Porter Loring North Funeral Chapel in San Antonio, Texas. Carolyn was born on July 19, 1933 in Marlin, Texas to Joseph W. and Oma I. (Morgan) Steede. She spent her early education in Marlin until the family moved to San Antonio, Texas when she was fourteen. Carolyn graduated from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio. After high school, Carolyn attended North Texas State College, where she met and married Grady J. Browning on Sept. 6, 1952. To this union one daughter, Charlotte was born.
Carolyn was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and attended churches in Texas, Iowa and Nebraska. Carolyn loved art, music, real estate and the stock market and was gifted in all areas. After retirement in 1999, Carolyn and Grady moved to Scottsbluff to be near their daughter and travel in their motor home. Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte of Scottsbluff; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph W. Steede and Naomi, of Dallas, Richard M. Steede and Pat of San Antonio; sister-in-law and brother -in-law, Jane and Don Parsons of Alto, Tx; sister-in-law, Helene Steck and her husband, Gerald, of Bryan, Tx; six nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Grady; and one nephew.
