Carolyn Jo "JoJo" Koppel Davis passed away peacefully at home May 10, 2026, at the age of 86. She was a beloved wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, and the warm, irreplaceable heart of her family.
Carolyn was born on February 1, 1940, in Harlingen, Texas, the youngest child of Helen and Nathan Koppel. Growing up nearly a decade behind her older brother Rollins and older sister Betty Lou, JoJo was the cherished baby of the family — a role she wore with charm and spirit her entire life.
JoJo began her college education at Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned her degree in Education. It was during her senior year that she met the love of her life, Charles "Chizzy" H. Davis of San Antonio, Texas. The two married in 1962 and built their life together in San Antonio, where Charles worked alongside his father at Sanivac Davis Manufacturing Company. When Charles launched Cleaning Ideas in the late 1960s, JoJo was an integral part of the business, helping manage their stores while raising their family.
Above all else, JoJo loved her family. She was a devoted and present mother, always home when her boys walked through the door after school, ready to listen and talk about their day. She was a loving and steadfast wife to Chizzy, who was the center of her world, and a fiercely proud mother to her sons, Randall and Jeffrey. She embraced her daughters-in-law, Laini Ann Davis and Gabrielle Dimetman Davis, with the same unconditional love she gave her sons and considered them her daughters — and they adored her in return.
Over the years, JoJo was blessed with seven grandchildren: Nicholas, Colby, Madeleine, Paige, Alexa, Jacqueline, and Audrey. They were her greatest joy — her "dividends in life," as she often said. Grammy never missed a moment to show her support for sports, recitals, school events, and graduations; always the first to arrive to claim the best seats.
JoJo was also the proud architect of 25 consecutive years of the Davis, Golden, and Koppel family reunions, gathering aunts, uncles, cousins, each year at South Padre Island, Texas — complete with custom family reunion t-shirts that she enlisted the grandchildren to help design.
JoJo's greatest gift was her willingness to drop everything for anyone she loved, at any moment, without hesitation. She will be profoundly missed.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles "Chizzy" H. Davis; her parents, Helen and Nathan Koppel; and her brother, Rollins Koppel and sister- in-law Amy Koppel, niece Kathy Koppel, brother-in-law Alan Golden, her in laws Joe and Alma Davis and brother-in-law Joe Davis Jr.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Randall and Laini Davis and Jeffrey and Gabrielle Davis; her seven cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Colby, Madeleine, Paige, Alexa, Jacqueline, and Audrey Davis; her sister, Betty Lou Golden; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Jane Zager; and a beloved extended family of nieces, nephews, and countless dear friends and neighbors whose lives she touched deeply.
The family wishes to thank the heartfelt care provided by the angels at Avenues Home Health, specifically Brianna, Georgette, Maria, Sonia and Jessica who provided care and comfort until her last day, and the wonderful care provided by New Life Hospice.
A private burial service will be held for the family. Her grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to a charity of your choice in JoJo's memory.
