Kit was born in San Antonio on June 6, 1941 to Oland Carlisle and Mabel Gladwin Carlisle. He
was a loving father, grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed.
A longtime member and past president of the San Antonio Gear Grinders Car Club, Kit achieved
local and national fame among auto enthusiasts when at twenty-four years old he built a 1923
Ford T-bucket hot rod with a 1962 Corvette engine that would be featured in 1965 issues of Hot
Rod and Car Craft magazines. A lifetime of continued work on hot rods of all kinds led Hill
Country Car Culture magazine to refer to Kit as a “hot rod legend”.
Mr. Carlisle was preceded in death by his father Oland and his mother Mabel.
He is survived by his children, Deborah Carlisle and her husband Andrew Denny, Brandy
Carlisle Hammers and her husband Matt Hammers, and Travis Carlisle with his beloved Redd
Dog, as well as his grandchildren Austin and Molly Spratt, Griffin and Savannah Sawyer, Carson
and Olivia Hammers, as well as his best friend and companion Bobbie Carlisle.
The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to VITAS Hospice San Antonio, with
special thanks to nurses Andrea and Joaquin.
The celebration of life will be held on August 28th at 2:00 PM at HillBillyz in Kendalia, TX.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their hot rods and their best memories and stories of Kit to
share.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Vitas Hospice Charitable Funds-- San
Antonio.
